TOPIC: Here goes nothing

Here goes nothing 13 years 10 months ago #1275367003

That is not a very thorough diagnosis by your physician. Of course, they\'re paid to hand out scripts and it\'s far easier (and cheaper) than the necessary tests to diagnose what the underlying factor contributing (blood flow/hormonal/etc) to your erectile difficulty may be. I wouldn\'t recommend PMMA to a patient either. It\'s just sad how quickly doctors grab the book and pen and send you to the pharmacy. Testing for testosterone (free/bound), SHBG, prolactin, estradiol, thyroid function, growth hormone deficiency, vascular damage, nerve damage and possibly even psychogenic erectile dysfunction may cost more but is so much better for the patient in the long run. Healthcare is a joke.

And this is coming from an American who I assume has a good health insurance provider. You should experience some of the shit we have to put up with in the UK.

Insight-just curious, after speaking with your doctor are you still planning on going ahead with Dr. C?

@Hoddle

Actually I did until last year when my employer had to drop our insurance as the cost became too great. I had to purchase my own insurance and it\'s extremely expensive and the coverage sucks. My Urologist would\'ve sent me home with a Rx too. Please don\'t miss the point I was making. Also, in case anyone has failed to notice, healthcare in the US isn\'t that great and is progressively getting worse.

To be honest, the closer I\'ve been to coming to this decision, the more I\'ve consulted this forum, my friends, etc. and truthfully, everyone else has told me that it would be crazy to do it and that I shouldn\'t, and I think yesterday was a bit of a wake up call in that. My biggest fear is a big unknown side effect would happen years after. I\'m not so concerned about lumps or aesthetic issues, but that something would happen way down the road that would cause me to have to have the PMMA removed and possibly lose function in my Dick. Now all that is, is a fear. Nothing I\'ve read or know about PMMA suggests that some unforeseen consequence would happen out of nowhere and most people on this forum who make such claims, I believe, make them out of their own fear of it, without having any research evidence to back it up.

However the reality is I do have some very serious reservations that are really in the form of questions, for instance, why isn\'t this procedure ok in America, after all, if there\'s money to be made doing this, someone would be doing it in America, and that\'s the damn truth. Furthermore, you\'d have men lining the streets for this procedure. I have no article or research basis for this next claim but a posterior logic suggests that if this procedure has seen 6 years of success in foreign countries, and there could be money made, then someone in the US would\'ve developed an FDA version and began making stacks off of this. This leads me to FEEL (key word here) that there MIGHT be something very very dangerous about PMMA that no one\'s quite saying here and in my gut and I simply cannot shake that feeling, so for now I\'m going to hold off.

In answer to the first part I\'ve highlighted, then you simply haven\'t been reading anywhere near enough. There have been numerous articles, studies and links posted over the last couple of years that indicate very clearly that unforeseen consequences can happen out of nowhere.

As for the second part, the fact it\'s not done in America means nothing regarding it\'s safety. It\'s perfectly legal to have silicone implants, Belloderm, FFT or Dermal Grafts in America and they have an absolutely appalling safety record. You should see my email inbox for this week alone, as I\'ve been exchanging emails with 6 guys who are all victims of American Phalloplasty.

Safety isn\'t the reason it\'s not done in the US. The reason is that Artefil has a patent for use of PMMA in the US. This means that US legal PMMA is too expensive to be used in Biolplasty and the carrier (bovine) doesn\'t absorb quickly enough. Once the Artefil patent runs out you can 100% guarantee that the procedure will be available in the US and much more widely than any other current PE procedure. But remember this doesn\'t mean that it will be safe, as history shows safety doesn\'t seem to really concern a lot of Dr\'s in the cosmetic industry.

I\'d like to respond, but it seems like Hoddle has it spot on!

@insight, you may be sick of hearing this, but being in the middle of a long recovery process from having Elists implant removed, ( I know PMMA is much less problem prone, but still carries some risks, asthetically if nothing else) why would you take a perfectly functioning and large penis, that looks extremely normal and take any risk what so ever? just my opinion..... but the best of luck to you no matter the choice you make.

Did we have a date when that patent runs out ?
Is that then the point where the PMMA improvement might really start ?

And many more business people might be trying to get a safe version of it?
Or are there already enough company\'s (the ones with enough money ressources) trying to get safe permanent fillers.
And they just cannot find a solution ?

Well at least then when PMMA would be spread all over the USA it would have its own spotlight for sure, either for development or for helping patients with problems caused by PMMA use.

So basically is that PMMA science already happening and most important done by the right people (company\'s) with high standards and enough money to be really into it ?

If so do we have any facts or sources for a statement like that ? (for a possible yes answer)

PMMA will always be a foreign body. The date of the patent running out wont effect that.

I doubt PMMA will spread all over the US, as it\'s not in the financial interests of the cosmetic industry.

But once the patent runs out it will be a more viable option for certain applications, so it\'s use will become more widespread.

But whether it\'s Brazilian or American, it seems the beads themselves all come from the same place, so the fact it will be more widely used in the US wont make it any safer.

It seems to me other than the quality of the beads, the only other issue is with the strength of the carrier, but given that Bioplasty depends on water based fillers, I can\'t see why they would be of a higher quality if made by a US company.

The only way to get a safe permanent filler is to find something that is entirely compatible with the human body. This is why for so long they have been trying to find ways to make fat grafts survive better.

The question was if there is any sign of possible progress in sight. (maybe even only speculation, would at least be something new to read ... )
Other then that doctors will get used to be dealing with PMMA dicks, which of course is a little progress but not that helpful for people who do not undergo PMMA these days.

I guess the answer is just no. Or is it ?! I guess so.
