There are a lot of new threads opened and a milliard of posts by guys asking questions, the answers to which have been posted here over, and over and over again. They are condoned by those who just love writing shit - especially us the new ones.

The quality of information I enjoyed when I just joined is nowhere to be compared to that now, due to the avalanche of insensate injections. This makes serious research very difficult and sometimes I get fed-up reading all those repetitive crap; I should believe I am not alone, remembering that the forum is read globally. I worry that the information content of the forum would deteriorate to that of any other internet shindig.

Why don\'t these guys do some research of their own? Why should others always do it for them and simply supply the answers?

Anyhow, that\'s that. And I hope I\'m not banned for this. It is a genuine concern ...

Kickass FAQ would definitely be more in line with that idea. It would also be much more efficient, as members can go right to the FAQ and type in whatever questions they have in a search box, and relevant results would come up, in the form of multiple threads related to a certain topic. This would really give the member a more robust answer to their question, while actually placing the value on having more forum content, in the form of threads related to the same topic.

S.O. I agree that jogift\'s concerns are valid, however, I have concerns about you deleting entire threads, regardless of redundancies. This can have a dramatic impact on the search engine optimization of your website, as many of these pages contain various key words which are important for searchability. As a digital marketer, with 20 years experience, I\'ve seen the damage caused to websites that delete pages containing valuable content. I think it\'s important for you to save as much data as possible. While your website does serve as a database for users to find information, it is ultimately a forum, for people to share and express ideas. I appreciate the need to organize a database, but a forum is free-form, and allows people to freely express themselves to others, and share their ideas, regardless of the form it takes. In that sense you would trim and groom your database like a garden, to improve searchability, but you would let your forum grow wild like a forest, so it grows exponentially.

Not at all. Bans are issued to forum-rule violators.

We actually have a Feedback Forum (where this thread may eventually be moved to) that explicitly asks forum members for opinions, comments, advice, etc as it pertains to the site. And while we may not necessarily accommodate all requests that come our way, we always appreciate them and take them into consideration. A post like this is one I\'m personally taking very much into consideration.

Your analysis is spot-on and valid...and crucial to the health of the overall forum. Had you ranted about something far less meaningful or irrelevant, worst that woulda happened is a deletion of the thread...haha

Correct. That may explain why many threads still linger around. At times I didn\'t want to create a false sense of suspicion if I did a mass deletion of threads. For that reason, I delete threads on a time-to-time basis, mostly as needed, and almost always for three reasons: very inactive, redundant, or in violation of forum rules.

Briceb highlights an important notice to the forum. As I go about the next few days doing a full sweeping of threads, I want you all to know why...the sentiment expressed by the opening post of this thread.

You\'re absolutely right. I have at times attempted manicuring the website, and from time to time I\'ll delete old or repetitive threads...but sometimes I\'m reluctant to delete certain threads, that while happen to be repetitive, also may contain tidbits of info that can be useful.

That said, I think what you are saying is becoming increasingly clear. After reading this post, I started from scratch and pretended I was a newbie. I went to the main page and started surfing as if I had never seen this forum before. And it became very obvious how much more difficult it is now to grasp all the knowledge available from times past. It wasn\'t so obvious before because, despite having to read every post that\'s made here, I\'m no longer in a heavy-research phase and view the forum as a \"Moderator\" as opposed to an \"inquisitor/investigator.\"

Time I make some larger deletions, and be willing to get rid of some things that I wouldn\'t have before.

Thanks.
