Fellow members, I’m writing this from the lowest of lows. I recent got infected from round 2 PMMA. About 3.5 weeks after procedure I started showing initial signs… Once the swelling started I jumped on antibiotics and ibuprofen. The swelling continued until I thought my Dick was gonna explode. I got to the point where I was dizzy and constant chills. I quickly got an appointment with Urologist. The night prior I soaked in warm tub to try to calm myself. After inspecting it the tub I noticed it started to ooze out of an entry point. A lot of puss started coming out, which to be honest was a relief due to the size.

Next day I received scans and the doc put me on heavy antibiotics and anti-inflammatory. If my fever would have been higher he said he would haven taken me to surgery to remove it. I think if it hadn’t have drained I would have gone to surgery and I still might. I’ve been on antibiotics for like 5 days, 3 days with the stronger ones. I can still squeeze puss out of entry point as of this morning. The Urologist stated the biggest issue with fillers is the space leaves a perfect place for bacterial to grow without good blood flow to fight again infection.

I go to the doctor again next week. I’m unfortunately the small percent that get the issues. I never thought I would be a cautionary tale, but now I worry about other havoc this PMMA may have wrecked in my body or still might. I have a family and young kids and this was so selfish of me to begin in the first place. I wish I could go back to the day I made the decision to do this and take another course of action, but I can’t.

I left a message with Avanti yesterday letting them know in hopes it’s not a product issue and could happens to others. I trust they’ll help all they can and Avanti doc is supposed to be reaching out today. I’m not pointing any blame just trying to find out more of what’s going on. I’m hoping my Urologist or potentially my possible surgeon will speak with them about the product if this becomes a degloving situation. I know degloving could take away length or leave scars…. I frankly don’t care…. I don’t want to go septic and die. The infection was scary and I was close to going to ER.

I pray I can get healing for this and whatever underlying mental issues that caused me to do it in the first place. I’ve stressed my marriage and become an emotional wreck while trying to hold it all together.

I’m not looking for pity, but help if group can give recommendations for best degloving surgeons who know PMMA… I’m not jumping to that, but I’ll follow my Urologist guidance and they said that’s the last case route….Or if this gets infected again.

For the members here I ask for prayers. It lonely to go through this with the private nature of it all.

This is a very unfortunate event, I'm sure you'll be able to heal perfectly and that soon it will be only a bad memory.
I truly hope that your doctor can get in touch with your surgeon, even if infection treatments are usually pretty standard.
I understand how you feel, don't think backwards, just leave your doctor handel the situation.
And please let us know how things are going, we all hope this will solve soon.

Wish all the best for you and your family, hopefully you’ll come out alright from this unfortunate circumstance.
If I recall correctly, infections from Avanti Derma practice happens in less than 3% of procedures. Unfortunate.

Antibiotics will hopefully take care of that. In 10 years I’ve been reading these forums, I can recall a couple of deglovement procedures in PMMA patients and they weren’t performed to resolve an infection but for other issues.

Hopeful this passes quickly for you. Don’t beat yourself up. You’ll get through it and it will pass . I highly doubt you’ll need a degloving. That seems extreme for an infection but naturally follow your Dr’s advice. Anxious to hear the advice AD gives you.

Yesterday was a much brighter day as it was like my antibiotics and anti inflammatories all finally kicked in. The swelling has most subsided and a strange softer soft at base on the right…. The entry point looks to be closed up as well. The base and fat pad is still sore, but it’s a huggge improvement!

I believe in your prayers and good medicine we’re blessed with has really helped me.

I’ve continued to literally soak my sheets in sweat every night, but I feel it’s my body’s way of getting it out.

At Avanti Derma it has only been Ian emailing me after I called the emergency line. Avanti Derma Doctors haven’t weighed in, but what can they say except “listen to your doctor and continue to take antibiotics”

One thing I learned is if you dive into doing this have a local Urologist/doctor you can visit quickly if worst case. There’s not really anyone that medically help you at a distant clinic or on this site. Once it gets real you hear from less people on here. (No offense to anyone on this site). I think it’s a great support group to help and to talk about something you can’t to others.

If this completely clears up, which is looking promising I’ll see what my doctor thinks. If it happens again they’ll suggest deglove, but as mentioned before they’re not quick to do that.

My question to group is: could my vessels grow within the PMMA to provide more blood flow in the future? Thus reducing potential for other infections? How could I promote that vessel growth? Nothing I’m at all messing with now or near future just curious.

I wanted to add Avanti Derma doc has contacted me and weighed in with some further reassurance. It’s much appreciated. I’ve shared my Meds I’m on.

I hope none of posts appear that I’m pointing fingers. Not the case… it’s a risk you take with any injection.

What was the sequence of events?

How soon after your procedure did you notice symptoms?

Were they limited to the entry points?

When was your procedure and was it your first or was it a subsequent round?

Yeah roller coaster…. 3 weeks after my 2 round is when I started having issues. I had some itching a few days before, but I thought collagen growth. Still could have been.

The swelling was whole penis. I regret not taking a picture, but at the time it’s the last thing on my mind. I’ll be the first to admit I likely overly reacted my first round when I got pain in my kidneys…. I’m thinking I could have been taking too much collagen supplements.

I was on antibiotics for 5 days, but 3 days on the strong ones and I think they finally kicked in well.

It draining itself I think was a good thing.

I’m really watching entry points moving forward ensuring they’re fully healing.

Glad to hear the antibiotics are working! This is a reminder that all elective procedures aren't without risk.

Just keep the entry points clear of any new infections and I believe you'll do fine after you finish your course of antibiotics. I also agree that people planning to travel for procedures (even if complication rates are considered low) ought to have access to medical assistance and/or health insurance if and when possible. That isn't to say your International Clinic can't provide some guidance from afar, but you'll need a place you can get immediate prescriptions (i.e. antibiotics), lab work, etc.

Good luck!

You can be sure vessels will grow within the PMMA particles. That’s how PMMA works. The collagen will surround each microsphere and new vessels and capillaries will grow around to keep the particle under control in case of any kind of issue or infection, so the immune system can quickly reach the enemy and resolve the problem.

I hope you are fine now.

So it’s been over month since infection and felt better until this week. The last 3-4 days I’ve been sweating a lot more than normal, heavy brain fog (hard to concentrate), more emotional. I took a COVID test and it was negative.

My gut tells me I got something still going on with PMMA, but don’t know if I can trust my mind which is still paranoid from last infection. My penis is not swollen just occasional twitch like pains so I’m not sure what my Urologist would say if visit him and he’s so hard to see plus not an emergency (I don’t believe)

I did get my TRT doc to order labs and I’m gonna check my white blood cell count. I likely won’t get that back until next week.

The only thing I know to do is try and schedule another appointment tomorrow with surgical Urologist to get second opinion. I really don’t wanna go through degloving and I feel they could never get it all out, but I really just don’t think my body is responding well to the PMMA

Has anyone experienced this or heard of this?

What you describe doesn't sound like a reaction to a Dermal Filler, but then again I'm not a Doctor. Get all the tests you can get done to make sure there aren't any underlying issues, but from what you described, it sounds like the stresses in your personal life may be taking a toll (you mentioned marriage previously) and manifesting in the symptoms you described.

I know someone who was combatting stress and depression and had similar symptoms, but then again, always be sure to get a battery of tests & a 2nd opinion regardless.

I had very mild prickly or twitch like "pains" (it didn't hurt, but did notice it) for months after every round, I always chalked it up to collagen production... since it eventually goes away.

Given your initial ordeal, it's normal to assume what you're experiencing now is PMMA-related, but I just highly doubt it is.
